A Category (Ages 5-8)

Stage 1:

Performers are required to prepare a minimum of 2 pieces of their choice. The duration for this stage is a maximum of 5 minutes. Please note that using the same pieces from the previous stage is not allowed.

Stage 2:

For this stage, performers need to prepare a minimum of 2 new pieces of their choice. It is not permitted to use the pieces performed in the first stage. The duration for this stage is also a maximum of 5 minutes.

B Category (Ages 9-11):

Stage 1:

Baroque Era Piece (menuet, polonaise, sarabande, prelude and fugue, invention, suite, etc.)
Classical Sonata or Sonatina, 1st Movement (M.Clementi, F.Kuhlau, A.Diabelli, W.A.Mozart, F.J.Haydn, L.Van Beethoven) (or variation, fantasy)
Etude (C.Czerny, H.Berens, etc.)
Stage 2:

Participants need to prepare a minimum of 2 pieces of their choice. It is not permitted to use the pieces performed in the first stage. The maximum duration for this stage is 8 minutes.

C Category (Ages 12-14):

Stage 1:

Polyphonic Piece (2 or 3-part invention, prelude and fugue, partita, or suite) (J.S.Bach, D.Shostakovich, Kabalevsky, etc.)
Classical Sonata, 1st Movement (Allegro) (W.A.Mozart, J.Haydn, L.v.Beethoven)
Etude (C.Czerny op. 299, op. 740, F.Chopin, S.Rachmaninoff, A.Lemuan, S.Prokofiev, I.Stravinsky, A.Scriabin, C. Debussy, etc.)
Stage 2:

Participants need to prepare a minimum of 2 different period pieces. It is not permitted to use the pieces performed in the first stage. The maximum duration for this stage is 10 minutes.

D Category (Ages 15-20):

Stage 1:

Prelude and Fugue, or Partita, Suite (J.S.Bach, Handel, D.Shostakovich, Hindemith, Kabalevsky, etc.)
Classical Sonata, 1st Movement
Virtuoso Etude (F.Chopin, F.Liszt, S.Rachmaninoff, A.Scriabin, etc.)
Stage 2:

Free Choice (a piece not performed in the first stage)
Romantic Era Piece
20th Century Piece (one or more pieces can be selected)
